ELAM and ELH (NEW!) Nominations Due to OIDE by 10/1
OIDE is accepting nominations from Department Chairs and Center Directors for the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM®) Program for Women and a new program, the Executive Leadership in Health Care program (ELH).
If you wish to apply, you must consult with your leadership so that they can discuss your potential nomination. Please do not reach out to OIDE to nominate yourself.
Launched in 1995, ELAM has been successful in preparing senior women faculty at schools of medicine, dentistry, and public health for institutional leadership positions, such as serving as department chairs and deans. The purpose of ELH is to build leadership skills for those women aspiring to seek positions as physician executives, such as chief medical or quality officers. Nominees for both programs must be full-time faculty at the level of associate professor (at least 2 years) or professor and someone who you fully support and for whom you plan to sponsor the selected faculty member’s progress in her leadership development. To learn more about both ELAM and ELH programs, please visit the following website: http://drexel.edu/medicine/academics/womens-health-and-leadership/elam/about-elam/. Program cost will be shared by the department and the Dean.
If you wish to nominate a candidate or candidates for ELAM or ELH, please send the documents listed below and an updated CV to fahlc@upenn.edu electronically as one package via email by 5:00 p.m. on October 1, 2022. Please specify the program, either ELAM or ELH, which you are considering for the applicant. Since the institution is only allowed to submit two candidates for each program, these abbreviated applications will be assessed by an internal selection committee and a final prioritized list will be reviewed by Dean Jameson. The top two candidates for each program will be invited to submit their final applications in November. The final applications will be due to ELAM/ELH no later than December 2.
The internal abbreviated application consists of the following:
(1) A nominee is requested to submit a response to the following questions: (No longer than 2 pages)
- What are your specific 5-year career goals? Be as concrete as possible.
- How will participating in this program help you achieve these goals?
(2) A recommender who is the nominee’s is requested to submit responses addressing the following questions, with particular emphasis on the supervisor’s vision of the individual’s career goals and specific leadership positions projected to be viable options for the candidate in the future. (No longer than 2 pages)
- Based on your personal experience with the candidate, provide insight to what you believe her leadership potential to be.
- What are the candidate’s present responsibilities and breadth of experience at her current institution and elsewhere?
Thanks in advance for considering this request. For several years, Penn Medicine has benefitted from a number of successful applicants to ELAM. Please contact Ms. Corrie Fahl (fahlc@upenn.edu) for a list of ELAM alumnae if either you or your nominee is interested in learning more about experiences in the program. We look forward to continued success with both ELAM and ELH in the future.
