HHMI Opens National Competition for Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program

HHMI Opens National Competition for Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) opened a national competition to select up to 25 early career scientists to join the newest cohort of the Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program. The program aims to increase diversity in the professoriate by supporting early career researchers who show exceptional promise of becoming successful academic scientists, which includes the potential to build and contribute to an equitable and inclusive lab culture.

Hanna Gray Fellows receive up to $1.5 million in support for up to eight years spanning postdoctoral training through the transition to starting a lab as faculty. The program is designed to give fellows the freedom to explore new scientific territory and seek answers to challenging scientific questions.

The 2024 competition is open to all eligible postdoctoral candidates in the basic biological and biomedical sciences in many scientific disciplines, at hundreds of institutions. Following HHMI’s “people, not projects” philosophy, the Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program gives fellows freedom to change their research focus and follow their curiosity during the duration of the award. The program also provides many opportunities for career development, including participation in the vibrant community of Hanna Gray Fellows and the wider HHMI scientific community.

This year’s grant competition is open to all eligible applicants and no nomination is required. Those interested in joining the 2024 Hanna Gray Fellows cohort must apply by February 28, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. ET. More information is available at the Hanna H. Gray Fellows page at hhmi.org.
