Internal selection process for Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics

To all junior faculty interested in bioethics,

The Greenwall Foundation has released its call for letters of intent for the Faculty Scholars Program, an outstanding 3-year career development program for faculty (from any relevant discipline) interested in bioethics. You can read more about the program at https://greenwall.org/faculty-scholars-program.

As a first step, as required by the Foundation, Penn is convening a university-wide committee to nominate a single individual to submit a letter of intent. Jason Karlawish, MD, Professor of Medicine, Medical Ethics & Health Policy, and Neurology, will chair the committee.

If you wish to apply, please submit the following items to Maria Crudele (mcrudele@pennmedicine.upenn.edu) by Friday, August 27, following the instructions in the RFP (https://greenwall.org/faculty-scholars-program/scholars-rfp-2022) exactly. Applications are welcome from faculty in any department of any school at Penn.

1. A three-page, single-spaced letter of intent, with one-inch margins and font size no smaller than 12 point, that includes:

  • A description of the research proposal, particularly its significance
  • How the research will be carried out and how it is likely to have an impact on clinical, biomedical, and public health decision-making, policy, and practice
  • A personal statement describing the applicant’s goals in the field of bioethics

2. A CV, no more than five single-spaced pages

If you are selected as the nominee, the committee will then work with you to refine your letter for submission to the Foundation by the September 20 deadline.

Please contact Ms. Crudele with questions about this process.
