Taught by experts from Wharton and the Carey School of Law, this course surveys the leadership skills and legal knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of the health care industry. Videos and assignments address the concepts, experience, and skills necessary to create a personal and organizational leadership strategy. The course also surveys the legal regimes that govern medical care in the United States, including the multiple federal, state, and local institutions involved in creating and applying, as well as legal doctrines related to the duty to provide care, informed consent, confidentiality and privacy, and medical quality control. Penn faculty and staff members are invited to take this 6-week long, online graduate course. Each week follows a pattern of asynchronous learning through brief videos, readings, written discussions with classmates, and real-world projects and assignments, plus a 1-hour synchronous class. Penn employees may use tuition benefits towards this course. This course is part of the Master of Health Care Innovation (MHCI) curriculum. A 4-course Certificate is available.
