Nominations Open for Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM®) Program for Women and the Executive Leadership in Health Care program (ELH)

We are reaching out to invite you to nominate candidates for the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM®) Program for Women and a new program, the Executive Leadership in Health Care program (ELH).

Launched in 1995, ELAM has  prepared mid-career women faculty at schools of medicine, dentistry, and public health for institutional leadership positions, such as  department chairs and deans.  ELH aims to build leadership skills for those women aspiring to seek positions as physician executives, such as chief medical or quality officers.

Nominees for both programs must be full-time faculty at the level of associate professor (at least 2 years) or professor. To learn more about both ELAM and ELH programs, please visit the following website:  http://drexel.edu/medicine/academics/womens-health-and-leadership/elam/about-elam/. Program cost will be shared by the department and the Dean.

If you wish to nominate a candidate or candidates for ELAM or ELH, please send the documents listed below and an updated CV to fahlc@upenn.edu electronically as one package via email by 5:00 p.m. on 10/15.  Please specify the program, either ELAM or ELH, which you are considering for the applicant.  Since the institution is only allowed to submit two candidates for each program, these brief  applications will be assessed by an internal selection committee who will present their recommendations to Dean Jameson who will select  2 candidates for each program.  Finalists will  be invited to submit their final applications in November. The final applications will be due to ELAM/ELH no later than December 15.

The internal abbreviated application consists of the following:

(1)  A nominee is requested to submit a response to the following questions: (No longer than 2 pages)

  • What are your specific 5-year career goals? Be as concrete as possible.
  • How will participating in this program help you achieve these goals?

(2)  A nominator should submit responses addressing the following questions, with particular emphasis on the supervisor’s vision of the individual’s career goals and specific leadership positions projected to be viable options for the candidate in the future. (No longer than 2 pages)

  • What are the candidate’s present responsibilities and breadth of experience at her current institution and elsewhere?
  • Based on your personal experience with the candidate, provide insight to what you believe her leadership potential to be.
