Primary Care Pathway

We are pleased to announce that the Perelman School of Medicine, with the generous support of the Benjamin and Mary Siddons Measey Foundation, is launching the Measey Primary Care Pathway Program at the Perelman School of Medicine.

The role of primary care in health care today is more vital than ever. Penn Medicine’s Shaping the Future of Medicine 2.0 Strategic Plan emphasizes the importance of strong primary care programs to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. The strategic plan also calls for the development of a system-wide educational model to train the next generation of primary care providers in Penn Medicine.

Beginning July 2019, The Measey Primary Care Pathway Program will do just that. The program will offer PSOM medical students interested in general internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, and geriatrics rich experiences in clinical medicine, research and scholarship, didactic and service learning and mentorship. These experiences will equip these students with the skills to lead the transformation of patient-centered, high-value primary care delivery to improve the health of patients, populations, and their communities.

The program will be directed by Jennifer Kogan, MD, from the Department of Medicine, Renée Betancourt, MD, from the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, and Jane Nathanson, MD, from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Alyson Michener, MD, from the Division of Geriatrics in the Department of Medicine, will develop the pathway’s geriatric curriculum.

We would like to thank the Primary Care Service Line Education Committee for leading the development of this important initiative and express deep appreciation to Drs. Jen Kogan, Matt Press and Christine Stabler for spearheading this initiative.

With best regards,

Suzanne Rose, MD MSEd Senior Vice Dean for Medical Education
