PSOM Limited Application - Mallinckrodt Scholar Award Program

The Perelman School of Medicine has been invited to nominate two faculty members for the Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation’s Mallinckrodt Scholar Award Program. The mission of the Foundation is to support early stage investigators engaged in basic biomedical research that has the potential to advance the understanding, diagnosis or treatment of disease.

 

Eligibility:

The funds are designed to provide faculty members who hold M.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees, and are in their fifth to eighth year of a tenure-track, with support to move the project forward to the point where other independent funding can be obtained. Candidates may have an R01.

 

Award Amount:

The Scholar Award provides $100,000 per year for a period of 4 years. Each year, thirty institutions are invited to nominate two candidates. Four finalists will be invited for an interview with the Foundation’s Trustees and one to two Scholar Awards are granted each year.

 

PSOM Review Process:

The PSOM Limited Applications Committee will determine the two candidates. To be considered, applicants must submit information in a single PDF in the following order:

 

  • Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s Chair, Division Chief or Institute Director
  • One page lay summary: applicants should bear in mind that the Foundation’s Trustees includes scientific and non-scientific members, making the summary of particular importance
  • Three-page detailed proposal including project title, aims and objectives. References should also be included to support the proposal, but are not counted in the three page limit. The proposals should be targeted to the Trustees’ scientific members.
  • Biosketch in 5-page NIH format (including all past, current and pending research support information)

Materials must be submitted in single PDF file in the following order: cover page, letter, lay summary, two page proposal and Biosketch. (Subject line should read: Mallinckrodt_ Applicant’s surname_Applicant's first name. For example: Mallinckrodt_Doe_Jane)
