Regeneron Prize for Creative Innovation for Postdocs_ BPP deadline January 20, 2023

The University has been invited to submit two (2) postdoctoral nominations for the Regeneron Prize.

The Regeneron Prize for Creative Innovation (guidelines attached) recognizes and honors excellence in biomedical science conducted by postdoctoral fellows.  An internal competition for BPP postdocs will first take place. Each school may submit two (2) nominees by the internal deadline of January 20, 2023.  BPP will then nominate two applications to the Vice Provost for Research. Only Penn postdocs are eligible for the award.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research will conduct the internal competition to identify the two postdoc finalists for the University.

Note: The University may also nominate two graduate students. Contact provost-ed@upenn.edu for details on the graduate student competition.

Prize Amount:   $50,000 cash award to the postdoc and $5,000 to the prize winner’s institution to support a seminar series.

Guidelines:

Title page that includes postdoc’s name, email address, department affiliation, name of faculty mentor, and project title A “Dream Project” proposal (up to 2 pages not including references, no smaller than 10-point font.  Figures MUST fit within the 2-page limit).

The research proposed must be within the field of biomedicine, broadly defined.

Preliminary data is not necessary.

The proposal should clearly define a specific experiment or series of experiments, and include a rationale, basic methodology/design (citing literature is fine), and discussion of how the experiment's results would advance the field.

IMPORTANT:  Read carefully, the attached document which describes the Dream Project format.

Full academic CV. Two (2) publications as evidence of scholarly achievement. Submit as PDF.

NOTE: If selected as a Penn nominee, all applicants will be asked to certify that the “dream” project proposal submitted is their original idea and does not appear in any publication or grant application where they are not the principal investigator. Project proposals found to the contrary may be disqualified. Proposals that embody incremental advances from current projects in their labs would also not qualify. Please also note that joint/team proposals are not eligible to be submitted for the Regeneron Prize.

Materials must be submitted in a single PDF file in the order above by 3:00 pm January 20, 2023 to postdoc@pennmedicine.upenn.edu. The subject line of email message should be: Regeneron Prize_Postdoc surname_ Postdoc first name  (eg. Regeneron Prize_Smith_Jane). The PDF file should be: Regeneron_2023_Postdoc Surname_Postdoc first name (eg. Regeneron 2023_Smith_Jane).

Deadline for the internal BPP competition is January 20, 2023.

Finalists will be notified by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research.
