Seeking Nominations for MFSSC and CAFR: DEADLINE 3/23/18

Faculty Colleagues:

The Medical Faculty Senate Steering Committee is asking interested members of the faculty to consider serving on PSOM faculty governance committees:

* Medical Faculty Senate Steering Committee: Tenure, Clinician-Educator, Research and Academic Clinicians

* Committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility: Associate and Full Professors Tenure and Clinician-Educator

The meetings of the MFS Steering Committee are held monthly. Faculty-related issues are discussed and addressed. These meetings typically consist of presentations from leaders in the Health System or University on issues of concern which the faculty have identified. The Steering Committee provides an unusual opportunity to stay in touch with and to influence the affairs of our institution. The Medical Faculty Senate plays a critical role in weighing and transmitting the sense of the faculty on major issues. Now is the time to actively participate in discussions regarding the future of Penn Medicine.

Bylaws require that members of the Medical Faculty Senate Steering Committee be elected from a slate of nominees of full-time members of the faculty. Representation from both basic and clinical sciences is required. Senior administrators, such as associate deans, are not eligible. Members serve a two year term. To be placed in nomination you need only indicate your willingness to run via return e-mail. Nominations will be reviewed by the members of the nominating committee and the selected candidates will be placed on the ballot.

Nominations are also being accepted for members of the Committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility (CAFR). Three tenured candidates and two clinician educators at the level of associate professor and above shall be elected for a two-year term, the first year as an alternate and the second year as a member of the Committee.

If you are interested in being considered for nomination for MFS Steering Committee or Committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility, please respond by March 23. We invite you to look at the Medical Faculty Senate website http://www.med.upenn.edu/senate/.
