Spook-Tacular Science Symposium

The Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) Philadelphia Chapter is proud to invite you to their first Spook-tacular Science Symposium on Saturday, Nov. 2nd from 10AM to 4PM. The event will be held on the University of Pennsylvania campus and is sponsored by the Greg & Susan Walker Endowment.

This Symposium is meant to serve as a way for the Philadelphia scientific community to come together and share their experiences with scary and/or unpublished data together. Too often, we as scientific researchers go through numerous experiments that never amount to a presentation or publication. As such, the Philadelphia Chapter welcomes any and all presentations regarding these experiments in all STEM(M) disciplines from students, postdocs, and faculty.

Our keynote address will be given by Rachel Valletta from the Franklin Institute. Rachel Valletta is a Penn alum who has worked on research regarding climate change and energy policy and is also the Director of the Climate and Urban Systems Partnership (CUSP) dedicated to engaging urban communities in climate change and urban resiliency.

Since the Symposium is right after Halloween, we strongly encourage everyone to present in their Halloween costume (there will be a costume contest)! As such, our dress code is informal to foster a casual atmosphere where attendees can enjoy not only the science, but also the company of other colleagues.

For more information (such as our schedule and registration), please visit our website: https://www.gwisphiladelphia.com/event-details/spook-tacular-science-symposiumRegistration is free and open until Halloween. Please be sure to sign up so that we have an accurate headcount!

Best,
