Despite the recent drug approvals for the treatment of gastric and esophageal cancers, these diseases continue to have high morbidity and mortality. The DeGregorio Foundation is focused on supporting research that has the potential to greatly impact patient care and significantly advance the management of patients with gastric or esophageal carcinoma. We encourage novel concepts and new technology, with a goal to bring these advances to patients with gastroesophageal cancer. We would like to promote team science and inclusion of individuals who are new to gastroesophageal cancer research.

The Torrey Coast Foundation will match funds from the DeGregorio Family Foundation to support the grant and the awarded party(ies) will collaborate with the Torrey Coast Foundation GEMINI group www.teamgemini.org. Grantees will have access to a supply of gastroesophageal cell lines, patient-derived organoids and mouse models to help facilitate research projects. A good idea shall not die because of a lack of resources.

Funding – Up to $500,000 over 2 to 3 years. Indirect costs – 15%

Instructions: All applicants are required to submit a letter of intent (no more than 2 pages, 11 size font, 0.75 in margins) indicating the title, background, aims, and abbreviated research plan, and institution(s) involved. On a separate page, include high-level budget divided by aims (due date August 1). Applicants selected for full proposal submission will be advised by August 30. Zoom call for finalists on September 8. Final grants due October 10, 2023.
