The Intersections Science Fellows Symposium

The main goals of the multi-institutional Intersections Science Fellows Symposium are to showcase the outstanding research contributions of postdocs in the biological sciences, especially those from backgrounds historically underrepresented in academia, and to support the scientific and professional development of the next generation of academic faculty. Fellows chosen will be advanced in their postdoctoral studies and interested in seeking a faculty position. Please mark your calendars to attend.

Faculty looking to contribute to the event as mentors, reviewers, panelists or representatives can sign-up here: https://bit.ly/ISFS21FacultyVolunteer

Faculty mentoring senior postdocs, please, share this announcement with your postdocs. We anticipate that you will help interested postdocs with their applications.  The deadline for applying to be a Fellow in the ISFS is August 31, 2021. As in the January ISFS meeting, a group of current Perelman School of Medicine Assistant Professors (members of the Richards Society) has offered to help all BPP postdocs interested in applying by reviewing the Research Statement (one page), Diversity Statement (one page) and CV (up to 5 pages) (see ISFS application guidelines).  Interested postdocs should submit their material to the BPP office (postdoc@pennmedicine.upenn.edu) by August 19, 2021 and will be assigned 2 faculty reviewers who will provide feedback in a timely fashion.

Early to mid-stage BPP postdocs who are not ready to apply, but are looking for leadership opportunities may participate in the organization of the ISFS meeting as described below. Those interested should contact the ISFS directly and email Léolène Jean Carrington, Ph.D. (Leolene.Carrington@pennmedicine.upenn.edu) the co-president of the Biomedical Postdoctoral Council.

Maja Bucan (bucan@pennmedicine.upenn.edu) and Mary Mullins (mullins@pennmedicine.upenn.edu) are the faculty point persons for Penn for this Symposium - please let us know if you have any questions.
