Training in Critical Care Health Policy Research at Penn

We are pleased to recruit our 12th class of applicants for training in Critical Care Health Policy Research at Penn. We expect to have funding on our T32 for 3 residents or fellows (or certain junior faculty without formal faculty appointments such as Instructor) to matriculate anytime between May 1, 2021 and April 30, 2022. We anticipate that most, if not all trainees will begin their training on July 1, 2021, but this is our range of flexibility for unusual cases. Funding is available for 1-3 years per candidate, with the majority receiving 2 years of support.

Two thirds of former trainees on this grant have gone on to receive NIH K awards or similar career development grants, and more than three quarters are now Assistant or Associate Professors at leading universities in the U.S. and Canada (including many who have stayed at Penn). Trainees on this grant are expected to complete Penn's Masters of Science in Health Policy Research (MSHP); a different Penn masters degree program (e.g., the MSCE) will be considered with written justification from the candidate as to why that program better promotes the candidate’s goals. Residents or fellows who already have advanced research degrees are also eligible if they can describe a clear path toward and individual career development award without pursuing another formal degree.

Interested candidates should send an email of interest to me (shalpern@upenn.edu) or Dr. Meeta Kerlin (prasadm@pennmedicine.upenn.edu). Dr. Kerlin will coordinate interviews in November and December with the T32 leadership. Please send questions about overall logistics, candidate eligibility, or other administrative matters to me.
