Using Data for Transformation (online course): Ravi B. Parikh

March 28–May 08, 2023 (ONLINE)

Using Data for Transformation (HCIN 6026-001; 1 CU)

Ravi B. Parikh, MD, MPP, FACP

Whether we are using AI to diagnose lung cancer or machine learning to predict hospitalization risk, algorithms are transforming medicine and health care. Most algorithms are based on routinely collected health care data—claims, electronic health record, and registry data. But too often algorithms are deployed without a full understanding of what we are trying to predict and where the data are coming from. This course will help you gain a fuller understanding of how to use routine health care data to transform care delivery and work with technical experts to design or select approaches that are right for your needs. (Full course description.)

Penn faculty and staff members are invited to take this 6-week long, online graduate course. Each week follows a pattern of asynchronous learning through brief videos, readings, written discussions with classmates, and real-world projects and assignments, plus a 1-hour synchronous class. Penn employees may use tuition benefits towards this course. This course is part of the Master of Health Care Innovation (MHCI) curriculum. A 4-course Certificate for Penn faculty and staff is also available.
