Winter Institute on Qualitative Research Methods

The Winter Institute is co-sponsored by the Penn Center for Public Health Initiatives and the Jefferson College of Population Health. The three-day institute is from January 8th-10th and involves two days of lecture and one day in a computer lab to learn NVivo. The comprehensive agenda includes:

  • Philosophical and theoretical foundations

  • Common and alternative data collection approaches

  • Interview and focus group workshops

  • Concept mapping

  • Ethical challenges and navigating the IRB

  • Ethnography and observation

  • Managing, coding, and analyzing data & using NVivo software
